With the Kudroli Cup finale to be held on the 21st of this month, the countdown has begun for what promises to be a heavyweight duel at the KSA ground. With the rivalry between the two clubs dating back decades, there is more than just a trophy at stake in the title round encounter.

The two teams have dominated the KSA circuit – with the league title shifting back and forth between the two camps every year. Interestingly, Mogaveera go into the final as favourites to win the competition following their impressive win against Bombay Fort in the semis.

The last encounter between the two clubs saw Mogaveera lose 1-0 to Satya Vijaya in the 2008-09 Kudroli Cup semi final.

After a heated pre-match confrontation off the pitch between the committee members of the two clubs, the battle post kick-off was both physical and tense. What makes the win remarkable was the fact that it was achieved by a 7-man Satya Vijaya team – with the club facing one of it’s worst personnel problems in recent seasons – in which coach Bala Kunder netted the lone winner!

Mogaveera will be keen to erase the game from their memories and will come all-out to regain their lost pride. A epic battle looms.

Latesh Sanil, Captain 09-10

Subodh Kuckiyan’s heroics under the bar paved the way for Lloyd Soans to nail the winning penalty in a tense shoot-out in the quarter finals of this year’s Kudroli Cup. In what was the first game of the season for the Greens,  the boys showed great grit and determination to overcome Saraswati SC – who put in an inspired performance themselves but eventually ran out of luck.

With Mumbai FC u-19 striker Tushar Pujari leading the attack, Satya Vijaya had a couple of clear cut opportunities to score in the first half but failed to capitalise. Being the first game of the season, it took a while for the boys to establish some rhythm and co-ordination in their attacks.

Opposition midfielder Asirwad Hegde was quite a handful for the Satya Vijaya boys to handle as he kept testing keeper Dominic with some long range efforts from time to time. Eventually second half sub Aditya – despite a niggling injury – kept the dangerous midfielder at bay with some tough tackling.

Defenders Addison and Aditya received yellow cards each.

The team put in a better performance in the second half than in the first and Denver Pinto played a vital role at centre back. Keeper Dominic had a commendable between under the sticks making some crucial saves during the course of the game.

Eventually, the game had to be decided on penalties. Though the decision of Subodh Kuckiyan to replace Dominic in goal raised a few eyebrows both on and off the field , the midfielder put all doubts to rest with a couple of blinding saves to pull Satya Vijaya back into the game and take it to sudden-death.

The team now faces powerhouses Jai Bharat SC in the the next round this coming Saturday.

Satya Vijaya Player Chronicles – Dhiraj Sanil

October 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Dhiraj Sanil has been involved with the club ever since he was a toddler and pose as the official team mascot – leading the team out to the pitch. Today, he finally becomes a part of the Satya Vijaya 2009-10 roster.

Squad 2009-10

This is his story

“25th October…A very BIG day for me..the day when Satya Vijaya SC played its first match against Saraswati SC. It was more exciting because our new manager Shailesh Karkera gave a place in the team.

Being a mascot the the team since the age of 5…and my dad being the president of the club…this club meant a lot to me…my dream came true when I got a chance to play for Satya Vijaya this year.

3:30 pm…The assemble time. As I entered I saw some big players with big names…

”AAH!What a team!” I thought.

At the same time I was nervous..I quietly stood next to Shailesh who gave me a smile and I could make out that he was happy to see me on time …finally the jersey distribution and I got was handed #15…

‘BHAICHUNG!’ said Aditya, my teammate.

As I blushed…it was a proud moment for me to wear the jersey and play for this team…my dad was proud to see me in the team too. Though I din’t get a chance in the first XI I did not regret it…as others deserved it and I was a way younger to them …but all is WELL that ends WELL…That’s what happened when we won the crucial match in penalties and advanced to the semi finals.

It was one of the best days…I felt like a PLAYA staying among da PLAYAS!”

The New Face of Satya Vijaya

October 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Satya Vijaya Crest. Designed by Shailesh KarkeraFor the first time in the Satya Vijaya SC’s illustrious history, a club crest will adorn the traditional green shirts. Designed by Satya Vijaya Committee Member and Team Manager Shailesh Karkera, the new crest is part of a project to re-vamp the club’s current profile.

“A crest is the face of a Football Club. The image that is most easily recognised by it’s fans and players alike.” explains Karkera, “The key was to work with the two primary club colours – Green and White – and create something that was clutter-free and most imortantly, original.”

The logo features a Giant Star bordering a circular design. “The idea behind the circular layout of the logo was to ensure that it would be easy on the eye as well as a continious design without any edges. I was tempted to work with the current mould of V-shaped logo designs but decided upon something unique.”, says Karkera.

Furthermore, he lays major emphasis on the two elements forming the heart of the emblem –

“The lion symoblises our team’s fighting spirit and leadership qualities. The lion is a dominant creature and quite rightly, the king of the jungle. The number 1929 signinfies the year in which the team was formed – and that , by itself, speaks volumes of our existence as a community based football club – which also happens to be one of the oldest in Mumbai.”

Love it or hate it, the squad will take to the hallowed KSA pitch with the new crest from here on out.
