The New Face of Satya Vijaya

October 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Satya Vijaya Crest. Designed by Shailesh KarkeraFor the first time in the Satya Vijaya SC’s illustrious history, a club crest will adorn the traditional green shirts. Designed by Satya Vijaya Committee Member and Team Manager Shailesh Karkera, the new crest is part of a project to re-vamp the club’s current profile.

“A crest is the face of a Football Club. The image that is most easily recognised by it’s fans and players alike.” explains Karkera, “The key was to work with the two primary club colours – Green and White – and create something that was clutter-free and most imortantly, original.”

The logo features a Giant Star bordering a circular design. “The idea behind the circular layout of the logo was to ensure that it would be easy on the eye as well as a continious design without any edges. I was tempted to work with the current mould of V-shaped logo designs but decided upon something unique.”, says Karkera.

Furthermore, he lays major emphasis on the two elements forming the heart of the emblem –

“The lion symoblises our team’s fighting spirit and leadership qualities. The lion is a dominant creature and quite rightly, the king of the jungle. The number 1929 signinfies the year in which the team was formed – and that , by itself, speaks volumes of our existence as a community based football club – which also happens to be one of the oldest in Mumbai.”

Love it or hate it, the squad will take to the hallowed KSA pitch with the new crest from here on out.

A Satya Vijaya tribute to Avinash Puthran

October 30, 2009 Leave a comment

The entire community of Satya Vijaya SC would like to take a moment to pay tribute to Avinash Puthran, one of the best players to have ever donned the green jersey and a loyal servant of the club.

Avinash met with a horrific bike accident earlier this year which saw him suffer multiple fractures in his legs which had him bed-ridden for an anxious few months.

By the grace of god, he is on the verge of making a full recovery following some great work by the doctors and extensive physiotheraphy sessions.

A 2009-10 Satya Vijaya kit has been specially made to honour Avinash to symbolise the fact that he is very much a part of the team and our close-knit community. We all hope to see him back in action very soon.

Satya Vijaya Colts – The New Generation

October 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Sixteen year old Dhiraj Sanil is one of the many youngsters in the squad this year. With a focus on youth development and character building, the club boasts of five players in the 20 member squad who are between the ages of 16-18.

The vision is to prepare these youngsters for the future so that one day they can proudly wear the captan’s arm band and lead the team out on to the pitch.

Current Mumbai FC midfielder Dane Pereira started off as a seventeen year old with Satya Vijaya and was one of the many players who made it to the top level of Indian Football. His sibling Keegan Pereira – who also features in the i-League for Mumbai FC – has also been an integral part of the Satya Vijaya setup in the past few season and was a crowd favourite at the KSA Grounds.

Whether the current crop are ready to scale the hieghts of Indian football is something that only time will tell. As for the team management, a close eye will be on these colts at all times.

A Year of Change

For the first time in the club’s eighty year history, the official team kit of Satya Vijaya SortsSatya Vijaya 2009-10 Home Club features Black Shorts along with the traditional Green Jersey.

The 2009-10 kit design is simple, with curves on both the jersey and shorts to blend with the new-age image for the coming seasons. The idea was to capture the essence of the Mumbai based Mangalorean roots of the team hence the inaugural Mumbai FC jersey was used as a design template.

The current season marks the introduction of the new Satya Vijaya emblem which will adorn the chest of the youngsters from henceforth.

The kit features squad numbers on three different places and the words SATYA VIJAYA SPORTS CLUB in bold letteringĀ along with Football Mumbai.com.

Though the introduction of the black shorts and stockings to replace the traditional all-green kit was not easily accepted by the traditional old-boys of the club, they have eventually warmed up to the fact that the club needs to be in sync with the current generation and design trends in world football.

The verdict amongst the squad thus far is that the 2009-10 strip is the best that they have worn in the last few seasons. Let us know what you think!
